What changed
Nauru relaunched its citizenship-by-investment program in late 2024 as the Economic and Climate Resilience Citizenship Programme, explicitly tying contributions to coastal-resilience and climate-adaptation funding — a distinct positioning from the general "national development fund" framing most Caribbean programs use. A promotional discount currently brings the contribution to $90,000, extended through 31 December 2026, after which it reverts to a standard $115,000.
How crypto moves today
Nauru is unusual among the programs in our directory for being explicit that it is "one of the few" that will document cryptocurrency as a source of wealth for a citizenship application — though, as with nearly every program here except El Salvador, this does not mean paying the government directly from a wallet. The applicant documents the digital wealth, converts it to fiat, and completes the contribution through a bank account — but Nauru's own guidance sets out the crypto-specific documentation requirements more explicitly than most programs bother to: a clear documentary trail with tax records, proof of wallet ownership, bank statements, a valuation report, and full transaction history.
Why the explicit documentation requirement is actually useful
Most programs that "accept crypto via licensed agents" don't specify what that agent actually needs to produce — Nauru effectively publishes closer to a checklist. That's a lower-friction starting point for a proper source-of-funds package than the ambiguity most programs in our directory operate under, even though the underlying process (liquidate, document, remit) is the same one nearly everyone else uses.
